Facilities

Reading Halls: The College Library has two fully air-conditioned reading halls with a total seating capacity of 200. It also houses two teachers’ enclosures having collective seating capacity of 20 besides one Enabling Unit for differently abled users of the Library.

 

Book Bank: The College Library houses a Book Bank, which is the largest in the whole Delhi University, with a rich collection of around 12000 books with yearly addition of around 500 books covering all the disciplines taught in the College. The books are procured in the Book Bank strictly keeping in view the demand of the students. It renders services to the students by providing them with the text books (Maximum 04) of their choice for the whole academic session. The students are required to apply for getting this facility as and when notified. To ensure transparency in distribution, books are issued on first come first served basis. Students are required to return these books before the commencement of their examinations to get Clearance/No Dues from the library. However, if the students want to retain the books till the examinations are over, they are required to deposit their educational documents as security.

 

Delhi College Archives: It is housed in the College Library. It was inaugurated by Prof. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research on 18th February 2008. Delhi College Archives contain a large number of files and books related to the College history and the significant developments in higher education in Delhi and North India from 1823 onwards. Besides original writings by the teachers and alumni of the College in Urdu, Persian and English, textbooks prepared and used during the 19th century for instruction in mathematics, history, geography, literature etc. are also a part of its collection. It also contains important secondary sources and books related to the Delhi College and the intellectual ferment in the Delhi region during the 18th and 19th centuries.

 

Property Counter: The Library offers the facility of property counter to its users. Users are required to deposit their Bags (excluding valuable items such as money, passport, credit/debit cards/mobile phones etc.) with the property counter attendant before entering into the library.

 

Special Facilities offered by the Library to the Differently Abled Persons: There is a ramp at the entrance of the College Library for the purpose of facilitating the access of physically challenged users in the library. VH and PH users are not required to wait in the queue for issue/return of the books. The Library staffs address the requirements of all such users on priority basis. There is one computer connected with Lex Scanner (which converts text into voice) and headphone meant for the use of VH students. The Library subscribes to 3 magazines in Braille format for the use of such users. If required, the Library staff helps visually challenged users by converting their print material into voice material using Lex Scanner provided by the EOC of the University of Delhi. Delhi University Braille Library Membership is also provided to the visually challenged students where they are provided with all their reading material both in Braille as well as audio format.

 

Photocopy: The Library provides photocopy facility to its users within the library premises. The users are charged Re. 1/= per photocopy.

 

User Orientation and Awareness: All the newly enrolled students are made aware about the various facilities provided by the College Library every year during Induction/Orientation Programme organized on the very first day of the start of the new academic session. The students are also helped and trained in searching the books in the College Library by the library staff.

 

Assistance in Searching Databases: The staffs of Multimedia and e-Resource Lab. assist the users in searching the databases available to the College through DULS via the website of the University of Delhi.

 

In-house/Remote Access to e-Resources: The users access this facility through DULS and University of Delhi website on their laptops, smart phones and the computers installed in the Multimedia and e-Resource Lab. of the College Library.

 

Download and Printing: These facilities are available to the College fraternity in the Multimedia and e-Resource Lab. inside the College Library. The users can download documents and other information from the various databases and electronic journals provided to the College through DULS and even take out prints as per their needs and requirements.

 

Reference: College Library provides access to all reference collections including encyclopedias, yearbooks, dictionaries, directories, competition books etc.

 

New Arrival Display Service: Books newly added to the library are displayed on the New Arrival Display Showcase before they are released for loan besides posting of information about newly acquired books and starting of new facilities and services on the Facebook page of the Library.

 

Reservation of Book(s): Books in great demand and which generally remain under issue can be reserved by the user at the Main Counter as well as Circulation Counter.

 

Current Awareness Service: The Library provides various important services like Current Awareness Services (CAS), Reference Services, information regarding examinations, results, syllabus, etc. on its Facebook page, which may be accessed through the  Mirza Mehmood Beg Library
